Bedroom Inspiration

I've recently acquired a new bedroom which is currently completely empty. At a tiny space of approximately 3mx4m, I'm not sure what I can put in my room besides my bed and possibly a small table.

I've been looking at the possibility of getting a loft bed, maximising space by elevating my bed but I decided against it because it was so expensive ($600 at Ikea?!)! I also thought of DIY-ing my own loft bed by placing my bed on top of some bookshelves and creating a nice cosy mini library, BUT, after researching materials used in most bookshelves I realised my bed plus my weight and my mattress would collapse the whole thing and I, better than anyone else, would know that I could definitely not get compensation from misuse of a bookcase!

I really liked the idea of a loft bed.. but Alas! I am a poor university student and I cannot afford one just yet. I guess I'll just have to go with minimalism!

This blog is extremely dead and no one reads it because I barely post on this and no one knows about it. In the chance that someone may read it, I just want to show you a bit of the beauty of Sydney.

3D Cards

During Christmas, I had a lot of spare time lying around and decided to make my closest friends personalised Christmas cards! I searched my house for any coloured materials I had lying around and ended up finding a lot of gift wrapping tissue paper (left over from my sister's scrap booking days) and PVC glue.

I thought it would be a good idea to make 3D Christmas cards!

This is how it turned out :

What you'll need 

• Plain cardboard (I used brown because they were already premade and cut) 
• Tissue paper (gift wrapping kind) 
• Scissors 
• PVC Glue (Dry glue is not as effective) 
• Coloured Pencils 
• Permanent marker. 

Steps 

1. Draw a faint outline of the picture you want to draw then lightly colour it. 
2. Cut the strips of tissue paper into thin rectangular strips. Remember not to cut it too long or otherwise the balls will be too big!
3. Scrunch all the tissue paper into little balls. 
4. Cover the areas with PVC glue and place the balls on the card in a systematic way. If you don't, it will come out very uneven. Try to put them as close together as possible. 
5. Finish off the card with permanent marker by writing a short message! 

And voila! a cute little Christmas card. :) 

The reason why I used PVC glue instead of dry glue is because when it dries, it's clear and it helps keep the balls together.

Balloon Birthday Card

Recently, I made a small hand made birthday card for a friend's 21st. It's really quite simple!

Balloon Birthday Card 

What You'll Need 

• Coloured paper
• Cardboard 
• String 
• Sticky tape 
• Glue (I used PVC glue but you can use dry glue too) 

Steps 

1. On the coloured paper, draw out balloon shapes with a light pencil. Make sure that they are all different sized shapes to get a nice variety. 
2. Cut out the balloons and string.  Make sure all the strings are roughly around the same length or otherwise you'll have a lot of loose strings. Feel free to use thicker string or wool for a more defined look. 
3. Sticky tape the string to the back of the balloon. 
4. Start gluing the balloons to the card. Don't completely stick the balloons down onto the card so you can slide some underneath to create a 'floating' effect. Mix up the colours however way you like :). 
5. Grab all the string and start twisting it so that it stays together and tie a knot at the bottom. 

So far, it should look something like this! 

The next step is also pretty simple and only requires : 

• Cardboard
• PVC Glue 
• Marker
• String 

Steps 

1. Cut out a few strands of string and twist them together so that they form one thick string. Alternatively you could use wool (but I didn't have any). 
2. Knot both ends so you get a nice thick string. 
3. Cut out diamond shapes out of the cardboard and fold them to form a triangle. 
4. Position where you want the triangles to be placed and glue them down with PVC glue. 
5. Write what you want on it!

And Voila! there you go - a simple, yet creative birthday card.
